Christa’s Birthday

Christa CaulkThirty-four years ago today, was the happiest of my life. I had a baby and she was beautiful and I fell in love. I was also given the responsibility for raising my first-born daughter Christa Noelle Caulk.

Born on the 20th of December, we named her Christa for Christ and Noelle’ for celebration of Jesus birthday season.

She was born with a head full of hair. The nurses at the hospital in Auburn, AL put a little ribbon in her hair made from the end of hospital gown.

Watching her grow into the woman she has become has been my greatest joy. She has been the strength for our entire family these last two years.

From the time she was born, sitting in a high chair eating home-made peaches from our home in AL, she and her daddy were close. He taught her football with X’s and O’s from her Cheerios cereal.  At night Mike and I use to sit on the couch in Auburn and watch her play, wishing we had twins…two of her.

Christa and my middle son, Jamie were very close…best friends and I was so grateful for their adult love and relationship. She took it very hard when Jamie went to Heaven.

Christa and her daddyWhen Mike followed him on his eternal journey…it  just about did her in. She has tried to be strong for me and the rest of the family. The other night we were talking and I said to her,”Please Christa don’t hold all your sorrow in, I’m Ok. It is OK to grieve and let it out.”

As a mother I have seen the sorrow on her face and would give anything to take it away.

When you lose someone you love in death, your life is changed forever. It is woven into the tapestry of your life. The front of a tapestry looks beautiful but, if your turn it over and look at the back you see threads going in every which a way. It is a mess. But with each stitch on the back grows a beautiful tapestry. Our journey, our story.

Christa writes on her own blog and if you haven’t read it I encourage you to follow her postings there as she has a beautiful way with words.

4TH OF July, mike and ChristaHappy Birthday my precious, I know today is hard for you. If I could take the pain away I would.

I love you so much and daddy is cheering you on in that great cloud of witnesses. Hebrew 12:1.

Love,

Mommy
