Jamie Caulk

Happy Birthday Jamie Caulk!

Today, my son, James Lindsay Caulk, would have turned 29. However,he is celebrating his 2nd birthday in Heaven. Jamie left this earth on October 20th, 2011 from injuries he sustained from a car wreck in Nashville,TN.

No one knows what it is like when you lose a child, except other parents who have also lost a child.

Caulk's at Big House Last year on Jamie’s birthday we went to the U of M “Big House”. Some of our clients coach for Michigan and they opened up the football stadium so we could go in to honor Jamie.

We brought big lanterns to light and set off to honor his life. When we got to the field it was windy and we decided it would not be smart to set them off over the football field for fear something might happened to the grass.

The kids went to the top of the Michigan football stadium and tried and tried again to light the lanterns. But it just didn’t work, so we came home and tried once again off our deck. Nope too windy here too, so together we enjoyed Jamie’s favorite dinner, steak and baked potatoes.Andrew and Allyssa Caulk

I made him his favorite cake, German Chocolate and will be making it again today.

Journey of Grief

Grief is not a journey I would have chosen to walk down. However on that road, my families whole perspective on life has changed. Since the deaths of Jamie and Lillian (Lillian is my granddaughter who died a month after Jamie did) our values and what is important in life is not the same.

Paul said in Philippians 1:21 that “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

To die is gain?

There was a time I did not understand that scripture, but I do now.

Yes we grieve. Jesus also experienced grief, (Isaiah 53:3) but our grief is not without hope.  We know our death on earth is not the end…it is just an interruption and we will one day all be together again forever.

Death

Steve Jobs spoke some profound words on death:

“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.”

All of us will experience death on earth, that is 100% certain. Life on earth is a vapor, a breath away for all of us.

Birthdays are always a big deal in our family. My son Matthew Caulk, who is a Realtor in the Nashville, Tn area made this video last year to honor Jamie.

Stay strong, stay faithful, stay honest, stay loving, stay true to who you are, most importantly stay true to who God is as you’ll be who you are, and you’ll be happy, you’ll be you, you’ll be free. -Jamie Caulk

Happy Birthday James Lindsay Caulk, I miss you like crazy but we will see you soon!

Love, Mom

  2. Happy Birthday to my friend, Jamie. Thoughts are with him and yall on this day…and so many others. My favorite cake is German Chocolate, as well. Another thing we have in common. Go Blue, Jamie!

  3. Just precious! Love the video. So few people who have not walked the same journey will understand how your faith comforts you. But tell them anyway, because the loss of a loved one is something we will all experience some day. Jamie must be so proud of you and your passion to share what you’ve learned with others. I know he is waiting to give you a big hug!

Happy Birthday, Jamie! May this day be filled with special memories of your precious son. I am so thankful for your testimony that your grief is not without hope. I praise God for that! Interested in your thoughts on brain death. Would love to go out for coffee sometime when I am visiting my parents.

  5. Very touching Missy, I must say so true in many aspects! I feel the same way, even though I lost my brother I gained alot! I’m a better person for that and believe God has a purpose for everything. (needed them in Heaven more than we needed them on Earth) Like you I have angles watching over me from heaven. I hope those angles send you love and comfort today / always. My prayers are with you and the family! God bless and Happy Borthday Jamie!

Happy Birthday Jamie ! To your family & friends: Please cherish your memories of Jamie. Talk often about him. Celebrate doing special things that Jamie would like to do. Eat “Jamie” food. I think doing this keeps your memories alive and brings you comfort.
This has helped me to learn to live with the pain & loss of my son Eric. He also died in an auto accident in 1996 when he was 18.

Happy Birthday Jamie, Your words, “stay true to who you are,” reminds me of my daughter, Melissa, who is in Heaven with you. I know that there must be alot of excitement and laughter going on up there because of you two up there. I can’t wait to one day meet you in Heaven.

  10. Great post Missy. Thank you for your godly perspective. It is true that I cannot fathom what you and your family have been through but please know that God is using your loss to encourage and reach others through your writing. May those blessings be returned to you on this important day.

  11. Absolutely Missy – My mom who went to heaven last year always said that a child leaves from the heart and a spouse leaves from the side. It really sounds better in German to me and it says, “ein Kind geht com Herzen weg und ein Mann/Frau von der Seite”. She knew as she had lost a child when he only was about two years old.

  12. Missy–My heart goes out to you and your family as you celebrate the memories and life of Jamie. What great love your family shares. You are truly blessed. Enjoy your day of memories. ((Hugs))

  13. Happy Birthday, Jamie, and enjoy your new second Birthday too!

    C ya.

  14. Hi Missy…wonderful post……… Happy Birthday Jamie!

  15. This is amazing Missy! Happy birthday Jamie and you’ll be missed.
